Velázquez Rediscovered – Special Exhibition at the Met

The Metropolitan Museum of art is having a special exhibition on Diego Velázquez. He was a Spanish painter who lived from 1599-1660. He influenced many artists in the 19th century including John Singer Sargent, Thomas Eakins, and Carolus-Duran. While Sargent studied under Carolus-Duran, he was encouraged to study the tonal values of Velázquez’s work.

Here is a clip that can be found on the Met website.
